Creative Year… Creative God.

Our oldest son, Chad, and daughter-in-law, Ashley, love to travel. They plan their trips (best I can tell by listening peripherally) with a great amount of thoughtful consideration and strategic planning. Sometimes, their trips are back to a familiar place they have grown to love, but most often, their destination is a new and different place they want to explore.

When they return, what we most often hear about, in large part, is the beautiful landscape from where they had been. When Ashley was describing what her eyes had taken in on their trip to Maine not too long ago, it was like listening to an artist as they were painting on canvas. I felt like I was watching her paint as she got lost in the beauty of God's creation, and consequently, Maine is now on my bucket list of places I want to see.

Recently, Steve and I went on one of those trips with Chad, Ashley, Adeline, and Whit to Tahoe, Calif. Steve and I had never been to Tahoe. We did not go to ski; we went to hike. It was marvelous! The mere beauty that we took in throughout each day reminded me of God’s unprecedented creativity. Not only was I in love with Tahoe and knew I wanted to return someday, but once again, I could not get over how God showed off His artistry — God is a magnificent artist!

Then we traveled around the perimeter of Lake Tahoe, It was breathtaking, While hiking and looking at this beautiful, brilliantly blue body of water I found myself praying, thanking God for sharing His strokes of genius. His creation.

Genesis I showcases God's creativity by reminding us that God created absolutely everything from absolute nothingness. And He did that in just seven short days. The first day, God created Light, and God said it was good. The second day, God created the Atmosphere/Firmament and on the third day the Dry Ground and Plants. And God said it was good. The fourth day, God created the Sun, Moon, and Stars and, again, God said it was good. The fifth day, God created the Birds and Sea Creatures and on the sixth day. God created Land Animals and Humans and it all was good. On the seventh day it was The Sabbath of Rest, and God said it was good.

Every single day, multiple times a day, part of what I pray is this: "Lord, You are such a creative God. I ask You to do what only You can do (in this situation/relationship, etc.)”

Don’t miss the wonder and splendor of the world around you; let the creator of the universe be creative in you!
